With 16 years of experience in education at numerous levels within the K-12 public school system, I look forward to the opportunity to bring my knowledge to support the growth of the adult school program while helping the community pursue their personal and career goals. Prior to becoming a Coordinator, I have been an English Teacher, Literacy Coach, English Learner Specialist, and an Assistant Principal. I am bilingual (English & Spanish), love to travel, am a California native, and I enjoy being in the outdoors.

Prior to La Costa Adult School, I have had 7 years of experience working in adult education at one of Southern California’s most diverse communities. With my experience, I look forward in being able to serve the community by helping current and future students meet their learning needs.

By day, I am a teacher at Cunha, having worked there for six years now. I love working with adolescents and teaching. I am thrilled to have an opportunity to be part of the team at La Costa Adult School to help more students achieve their goals.

Rhea Dreyer

B.A. in Marketing from UC Davis, multiple subject and social science credentials. Teaching adult ABE, HSE, HSD, ESL since 2009. Living in Pescadero with two fine sons, a great partner, two cats and a nutty cattle dog.

Roy Mercado
Teacher, ESL
Since 2017, I have been at Jefferson Elementary School District teaching middle school students where my focus has been on building literacy in Social Studies and promoting a healthy and active lifestyle in Physical Education. I have also spent the last two summers with Cabrillo USD as a middle school Jumpstart ELL teacher and special education paraprofessional. I look forward to using my diverse skill set for this upcoming school year to bring a positive learning experience that will help our students at La Costa meet their academic goals.

Susan Kerby

I have always been interested in other cultures and languages. In high school I was an exchange student to Sweden. In college, I majored in Spanish and spent a lot of time studying in Mexico. Later, I lived in Brazil for 2 years where I began teaching English as second language. Next stop was France for several more years and I became a certified TEFL teacher at the American University in Paris. Later on I received TESL and TEFL certification from UC Santa Cruz. I also spent many years teaching at a private school as an ESL and kindergarten teacher.

Sarah Goldberg
Teacher, Spanish Lead & ESL
Sarah Goldberg is originally from Flagstaff, Arizona and has been living in the Central Coast/Bay Area for about 7 years. She holds a B.A. in Spanish and Portuguese from CU-Boulder and an M.A. in Education from UC- Santa Cruz. She has been an educator for most of her working life in preschools, elementary classrooms and adult language programs. Amongst all of her roles, a constant has been a commitment to student-centered learning experiences, bilingual education, equitable access to high quality learning experiences and building strong and diverse learning communities.

I love teaching and interacting with people. So, it makes sense that I have made a career of teaching. During the weekdays, I am a middle school English & Reading teacher in Daly City. I have held this position for more than the past two and a half decades. It has been my delight to to have the opportunity to expand my own teaching skill set and help the amazing students with the La Costa ESL Adult School population.
