High School Diploma vs. High School Equivalency
(What is the difference?)
High School Diploma for Adults
- Carries the same rights and privileges as a high school diploma from a non-accredited K-12 high school.
- Requires students to complete 145 credits of study
- Students take online classes in English, Social Science, Mathematics, Science, the Arts & Electives
- Recommended for students that have taken at least 90 credits in a high school setting
- Students are expected to complete 60 credits per year
- Classes are online with weekly live teacher support
- When all classes are completed, you will receive official transcripts from the La Costa Adult School, then your diploma in June at our graduation ceremony
- La Costa Adult School diploma is NOT accredited
High School Equivalency for Adults (HiSET Exams)
- Recommended for students with fewer than 90 high school credits
- Classes are to prepare students for passing the HiSET examinations (tests)
- Preparation classes prepare students to take tests in Reading, Writing, Math, Social Studies and Science
- Students are recommended to study at least 15 hours per week
- Study classes are online
- Regular teacher contact is required every other week
- Classes are tuition free, however HiSET charges$35 per exam
