The Team

Matt Linton

Coordinator/Assistant Director

With 16 years of experience in education at numerous levels within the K-12 public school system, I look forward to the opportunity to bring my knowledge to support the growth of the adult school program while helping the community pursue their personal and career goals. Prior to becoming a Coordinator, I have been an English Teacher, Literacy Coach, English Learner Specialist, and an Assistant Principal. I am bilingual (English & Spanish), love to travel, am a California native, and I enjoy being in the outdoors.

Roy Mercado

Since 2017, I have been at Jefferson Elementary School District teaching middle school students where my focus has been on building literacy in Social Studies and promoting a healthy and active lifestyle in Physical Education. I have also spent the last two summers with Cabrillo USD as a middle school Jumpstart ELL teacher and special education paraprofessional. I look forward to using my diverse skill set for this upcoming school year to bring a positive learning experience that will help our students at La Costa meet their academic goals.

Maria Skinner

Teacher, Spanish

A graduate of Occidental College and Notre Dame de Namur, my passion has always revolved around languages, teaching, and travel and have spent several years living in France, Germany, Italy, and Mexico. I have worked as an English, Spanish and French teacher, translator and interpreter, and was co-owner and producer at a computer graphics studio. I’ve worked for Cabrillo Unified for over 12. I’ve been able to raise my two children here on the coast side, am very fond of the cultural mix in our community, and am enthusiastic about helping our local adults achieve their academic goals!

Susan Kerby

I have always been interested in other cultures and languages. In high school I was an exchange student to Sweden. In college, I majored in Spanish and spent a lot of time studying in Mexico. Later, I lived in Brazil for 2 years where I began teaching English as second language. Next stop was France for several more years and I became a certified TEFL teacher at the American University in Paris. Later on I received TESL and TEFL certification from UC Santa Cruz. I also spent many years teaching at a private school as an ESL and kindergarten teacher.
